Friday Night Rewind -The next GREAT skill player in Arizona

Basha and Hamilton squared off Friday night. It likely won’t be the last time they see each other here in 2025. With an overflow crowd on the Bears’ home field, Hamilton came in and flexed their muscle, cruising to a 28-12 win.

I was on the sidelines visiting with a longtime, well-respected, Arizona high school football observer who dropped this nugget on me while we were watching Hamilton super-soph Roye Oliver III torch the opposition. “He may be better than DeVonte Neal, D.J. Foster, and Christian Kirk before it’s all said and done. This person had no dog in the fight Friday night. What he says always “goes” in my book.

It was a night where Oliver lll did a little bit of everything.

He’s just a sophomore with 25 touchdowns in 8 games, which would set a new 6A single-season record.

The Battle of Arizona Avenue is two weeks away, and this year’s Chandler vs Hamilton match-up is shaping up to be one for the ages—a first-year coach with the Wolves and a second-season guy at Hamilton. I will be the emcee of the Battle of AZ Ave. luncheon the week of the game, and I am looking forward to seeing these teams break bread and then get after it on the field. Once again, it looks like a match-up we could see in late November or December. Chandler rolled over Chavez on Friday night 49-7.

Brophy wanted to send a statement to Liberty Friday night, but none was given. Lions rolled 38-3.

Arizona College Prep took down Notre Dame 31-21. Knights first year head coach Derek Zellner improved to 8-1.

Highland started the season 0-4, but have won for straight. Next Friday nights showdown with Red Mountain will be a headliner.

162-28. That’s the combine winning score for Desert Edge in the last three weeks. What would it look like if DE played Hamilton, Liberty or Basha?

Benjamin Franklin at Pusch Ridge next Friday night!
