Arizona high school football fans will remember the name Tommy Christakos.
The former Chaparral Firebird was one of the most decorated wide receivers to come through the state. Over his varsity career, he tallied 29 receiving touchdowns.
He also hit 15 fields goals and forced 76 touchbacks as Chap-town’s kicker.
Those stats may be more important to ASU fans than the receiving numbers now.
After playing at Cal, injuries forced him to step away from football after his junior season. He returned to Arizona and is pursuing a Master’s degree at the Selig Sports Law and Business program at ASU.
He also walked on to the football team as a kicker and is on the spring roster.
The grad student is looking to add versatility to the special teams room. Charlie Ragle, Christakos’ new position coach, is very familiar with the former Firebird’s skill set because he originally recruited Christakos to Cal as a wide receiver. Ragle told his new player to be ready for everything, so Christakos is preparing to help in the kickoff, punting and field goal game.
And he knows second chances in college sports don’t come up often, so he’s looking to make the most out of the opportunity to help the Devils.
