Amber Freeman and Lloyd Carrington will always hold Tempe and Sun Devil Athletics close to their hearts. Freeman was the 2013 Pac-12 Softball Player of the Year and a two-time All-American. Carrington was a mainstay in the defensive secondary for Todd Graham, starting 29 games in Tempe and was a captain in 2015.
While they were friends in Tempe, they reconnected years later. After Freeman was named to the Georgia softball coaching staff in 2023, and Carrington sent her a congraulatory text.
Then they kept talking…and haven’t stopped.
The duo started dating and Carrington proposed last December.
They’ll return to Farrington this weekend for a big series between ASU and Arizona, but they won’t be rocking the maroon and gold….
Freeman is in her first season as an assistant coach for Arizona softball focusing on hitting and the catcher position. She’s made an early impact with the team. The Wildcats average over eight runs a game and lead the Big 12 with 46 home runs in 31 games.
It took a little getting used to for them to rock the Block A instead of the pitchfork, but they’re thrilled to be back in Arizona and are ready to tackle life together, wherever they end up.
