Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (November 11th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
What’s your advice for owners with Andrew Luck? “The waiver wire is your friend and luckily the quarterback position is the easiest to replace off the waiver wire…there are some options out there. You’re going to have play the waiver wire and the match ups and potentially just stream quarterbacks each week unless you have a pretty good QB2 which I would suspect a lot of people do have because the position is pretty deep.”
How about Luck’s backup Matt Hasselbeck? “Matt Hasselbeck’s maybe going to give you 15 points a game and if you can live with that ok, but I’m not so sure I’d rather settle for a player who has such a low ceiling. But when the match up is right I think Hasselbeck is going to be a starter in some fantasy leagues. Again, I just wouldn’t rush to the waiver wire to pick him up.”
How would you access Blake Bortles’ season to this point? “Bortles is sort of like the poster child for where fantasy and reality are completely different. In reality, Bortles turns the ball over way too much and his team doesn’t win (consistently). In fantasy he’s awesome because he throws the ball a ton. They throw the ball downfield. They’ve got two great wide receivers in Allen Hearns and Allen Robinson. They’ve got a good young and up-and-coming running back in T.J. Yeldon. Julius Thomas is in the mix although he hasn’t done too much outside of one game.”
