Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (October 7th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
49ers-Rams Monday night game: where are you on St. Louis wide receiver Brian Quick? “He’s been great. Listen, he’s been finding the end zone. He’s the one Rams’ receiver you can trust. It’s not Tavon Austin who has really been a disappointment from a fantasy perspective and from a reality perspective I guess, too. He’s got a really good rapport there with Austin Davis so quick is becoming a guy who you can start as a third wide receiver, a flex starter. I still think he’s subject to the match ups and the 49ers defense is pretty good so I see him as a three this week, maybe a flex but he’s been putting up great numbers. He’s on pace for over 70 catches and 1,200 yards. Those are really good projections.”
How about Justin Hunter from the Titans? “You remember how much I loved him in the pre-season? I said this guy was a deep sleeper. Well, I guess better late than never, right? He didn’t have much going for him in the first few weeks but this past week a very solid game. He’s rosterable but not a must-start…he’s got major, major upside. The quarterback position in Tennessee hasn’t helped him, though.”
Do you see Golden Tate continuing his solid fantasy production with Calvin Johnson still hobbling? “Golden Tate has been a star. He’s had [31] targets in his last [three] games, he only had 20 in his first three combined…so the beneficiary of this Calvin Johnson injury hasn’t been his fantasy owners, obviously. It’s been Golden Tate.”
