Every week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (July 20th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
What do you make of Green Bay’s crowded backfield situation? “I mean, there is no battle. It’s Aaron Jones atop the depth chart with Jamaal Williams two and A.J. Dillon three. I do feel like this is one of those cases where we’re going to miss on seeing A.J. Dillon in some preseason games. Although, I thought it was smart the NFL got rid of those because they’re meaningless. But, it’s one of those scenarios where, Aaron Jones is the [number] one, expect regression. He’s not going to score 20 touchdowns again. Jamaal Williams is probably the handcuff, with some stand alone flex value, at times.”
Let’s stay in the NFC Central and talk about the Vikings’ wide receiver group from a fantasy perspective. “Adam Thielen is the number one. There’s no doubt about that. Justin Jefferson is the target to be the wide receiver two, although – rookie, coming into the NFL, no OTA’s. You’re going to be hearing that a million times over from fantasy and NFL analysts. At three, you’ve got Tajae’ Sharpe…there’s not a lot to like from a fantasy perspective past the top two wide receivers in Minnesota.”
Are you expecting a bounce back year from Will Fuller in Houston? “What is so attractive about him is, when he plays, he’s typically productive. I mean, he had a game last year where he had 60 points, or something. I can’t remember exactly what game it was but he can put up numbers. He has scored a ton of touchdowns when DeShaun Watson has been the quarterback there in Houston but he just can’t stay out of the trainer’s room. He’s got the high ceiling but the floor is kind of low.”
Cam Newton and the Patriots. How do you see that playing out? “Cam is a guy you can get in the double digit rounds so it’s not coming at a high cost despite having so much success. Which Cam are we going to see? Superman, who’s been one of the elite quarterbacks since he’s come into the league or Clark Kent who hasn’t looked that great in the last 4-8 games? Of course, you also have to factor in injuries. He is a QB2 who is well worth taking, not inside the top 100 picks, but certainly a guy you can get in the 11th or 12th rounds who may play dividends. If he doesn’t, it’s a deep position and you can throw him back on the waiver wire.”
What’s your read on the Chargers’ quarterback situation? “I think Tyrod Taylor could be useful. You remember he had a season in Buffalo where he was pretty good. I feel like Justin Herbert is not going to start, maybe, as soon as he would have had their been OTA’s and we wouldn’t be in this coronavirus situation. So Tyrod, draftable in two QB and super flex leagues and not in re-draft or typical 10-team leagues.”
