Each week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (August 13) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
Who jumped out at you through the first week of the pre-season? “There were several. You look at what Brandin Cooks did in New Orleans 55 yards and a touchdown. Very elusive, fast. He’s going to be able to play right away and Drew Brees is his quarterback so that doesn’t hurt. His teammate Mark Ingram over 80 yards rushing on eight carries and a touchdown. I want to see more from him. He’s really been a disappointment at the NFL level and I’m not going to increase his value too much based off of one performance in the pre-season. Rashad Jennings, who I’ve liked from the get-go, a bug 73-yard touchdown run against the Pittsburgh Steelers…Jay Cutler is another player who looked really good in the pre-season. Ryan Tannehill looked good, also. Let’s see what they can do in Week 2 of the pre-season.”
Where are you on Arian Foster right now? “The longer Arian Foster is out, the more worried I’m going to get about him. Coming off back surgery he’s supposed to be okay but now the report is he’s got a hamstring and Bill O’Brien’s not talking about it too much…that’s bad for fantasy owners because we don’t know what’s going on with Arian Foster so until he gets back on the field, until we see him in pre-season and see him take hits and he looks like the old Arian Foster if he ever does again, you feel safer drafting him at the end of the first round, beginning of second round. But right now Foster is one of the biggest risk-rewards in fantasy football. He’s gotta get back on that field for people to have faith in him.”
Is it worth taking a closer look at Cowboys’ skills players because their defense is so poor? “This is a six-win team at most…the defense is going to give up a lot of points which means the Cowboys are going to throw the football a lot which is great news for Tony Romo, assuming his back is healthy and Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams and Jason Witten and Scott Linehan likes to throw the football…you could see DeMarco Murray catch another 50 passes out of the backfield. So this is great news from a fantasy perspective. The Cowboys are going to be in a lot of shootouts.”
