Give Herm Edwards and his staff credit. A four game losing streak, with the 6th ranked Oregon Ducks coming to Tempe, should-be added up to a big loss. Vegas had the Sun Devils listed as a 13-and-a-half underdog, but none of it mattered as Arizona State put together one of the biggest upsets in the history of the program, taking down the Ducks 31-28, but it wasn’t easy.
Herm Edwards said after the game on the national TV audience “we’re resilient, we made it good for television”.
A 24-7 Sun Devil 4th quarter lead, evaporated to 24-21, before Jayden Daniels connected on a 83 yard bomb to Brandon Aiyuk that pushed the lead back to 31-21 with 3:56 to play. Daniels would finish 22-32-408 yards and 3 TDs.
Former Chandler high star Johnny Johnson, who had a monster homecoming, putting up 207 yards on 10 catches with 2 TDs. took it to the endzone to make the score 31-28 right before the 2:00 mark.
With the victory, Arizona State is now bowl eligible with a 6-5 record. The Sun Devils also come into their rivalry game with the University of Arizona
