In 34 games with Triple-A Reno, Waldschmidt hit .289 with 9 doubles, 3 triples, 3 homers, 22 RBI, 19 walks and 6 stolen bases.
The young outfielder will get his first start on Saturday.
In order to make room on the roster, the D-backs designated Alek Thomas for assignment. If he clears waivers he can be brought back and signed to a AAA deal.
