Devon’s 2025 Top 5 Rewind

In just a few days, it is time to say thank you and so long to 2025! It’s that time again to look back on all the incredible things that the past 12 months have brought our way.

It is a privilege to work with this Sports360AZ team, full of incredible storytellers with a contagious work effort who are even better people. 2025 allowed me to do things I never thought imaginable just last year.

When Claudia Collins started our Top 5 Rewind a few years ago, I knew I wanted to take part and go through my own favorite stories. Below sit my Top-5 favorite stories that I had the privilege of helping tell in 2025 along with my picks for the Top-5 stories to come from our incredible team this year. So sit back, relax, and let’s take a look back at 2025!

Devon’s Top-5

5. North Canyon Football Celebrates Jersey Donation from Devon Dampier

I love having fun at work! As a part of hosting the North Canyon vs. Maryvale game broadcast for CW 7 Arizona, I made the drive out to North Canyon High School to feature a few of their athletes since former Saguaro great, Devon Dampier, donated money for them to purchase two brand new jerseys that were much needed for the program. The athletes had quite the response to the donation and had a few fun parting words for their former jerseys.

4. Peoria’s Dylan Cappello Eyes Hometown Championship at Phoenix Raceway

It has been a joy watching Liberty High School and Northern Arizona University alum Dylan Cappello rise up the NASCAR ladder! This year was possibly the final NASCAR Championship Weekend at Phoenix Raceway and the local kid had a shot at winning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship as a Crew Chief for Layne Riggs and Front Row Motorsports. While the weekend went no where near what they were hoping for, it was a joy to meet Dylan’s parents and chat with them about their son and his love of racing.

3. William Byron Outlasts Chaos for Back-to-Back Daytona 500 Championships

Who in the world would have thought that I would have covered my fourth Daytona 500 in 2025? Because I sure wouldn’t have! It has been such a privlidge to have the opportunity to cover The Great American Race the past four straight years in Daytona Beach for one of the greatest motorsports events in the world! And guess what; we’ll be back for a fifth visit in just a few months! I can’t even express how grateful I am for Brad Cesmat and our team for supporting me in going to one of the most sacred days in all of racing.

2. Valley First Responders Duel in the 14th Battle of the Badges

I say this every single rewind, but every year, a story will fall into your lap that changes your perspective on life. This year, the 14th Annual Battle of the Badges visited my backyard of Liberty High School, as east valley and west valley First Responders dueled in a game of flag football for braging rights and to raise money for their teammates in need. I really hope I can get out the Battle of the Badges in 2026 and continue to support this incredible event!

1. Devon Henry’s Sport of Speed on CW 7 Arizona

There was nothing more rewarding and more of a labor of love and sweat in 2025 than putting together a ten-episode season of Sport of Speed on CW 7 Arizona! It has been a privilege to take the passion I love and go inside the world of NASCAR, sprint cars, dirt bikes, and more while partnering with my home track of Phoenix Raceway! I can’t be more grateful to Brad Cesmat, Phoenix Raceway, and the team at CW 7 Arizona for allowing me to put together such an incredible opportunity.

5. Eliav’s Phoenix Mercury Coverage

No one in the state of Arizona has covered the Phoenix Mercury in 2025 like Eliav Gabay! Eliav has dumped his heart and soul into this WNBA franchise over the past few years and it took front and center as the Mercury made a magical run for the WNBA Championship. While they came up short, Eliav’s coverage was championship-worthy with his in-depth dives storytelling into what is maybe the most successful sports franchise the the Grand Canyon State.

4. Park University Women’s Basketball Cancer Survivors

Jordan Spuregon put together such an incredible and inspiration story with the only coach-player combo in the country who are cancer survivors. Two unique stories, one remarkable connection that brings these two individuals together while also inspiring others along the way. You never know what kind of story you’ll stumble into, but I am so glad that Spurge had the opportunity to tell this story.

3. Staying on Pace: The Sammy Chavez Story

This was one of our favorite stories to watch come together in 2025! Claudia Collins did an amazing job following all of the great things that Sammy Chavez spreads joy through in his life. Even though he has lost his sight, it hasn’t stopped him from changing lives and doing what he loves, both in his band, and on the track!

2. Fiesta Bowl High School Football Showdown on CW 7 Arizona

Brad Cesmat has been eyeing the opportunity to executive produce one of the great products the state of Arizona has to offer for as long as I’ve been a member of Sports360AZ. In 2025, Brad finally got his wish, and helped promote Arizona High School Football in one of the best possible ways: by having fun! High school football in Arizona hasn’t been presented like this for as long as I’ve been part of the industry and it was such an honor to share the stage with stars of Arizona media coverage like Jody Jackson, Cody Cameron, Jordan Spurgeon, Lexi Lambert, Jordan Hamm, Eliav Gabay, Dale Hellestrae, and Rick Garretson. It was a blessing to be part of and I’m so excited to see how it grows!

1. 2025 National Football Foundation Bill Riddle Chapter Awards Show

Wrapping up our list is our most gratifying content to create, the annual National Football Foundation Bill Riddle Chapter Awards Show! It’s one of the few times all year that we bring our small team at Sports360AZ together as one and create a phenomenal show to showcase the best of the best that Arizona has to offer. It’s an honor to recognize these athletes, a privilege to help such a prestigious organization in doing so, and an absolute blast to do it with such incredible individuals on our team.

Another incredible year filled with incredible people and insane opportunities comes to a close. I can’t wait to see how this Sports360AZ team grows and what we are able to accomplish in 2025. Happy New Year to you and yours! Can’t wait for all 2026 has in store!
