Arizona State running back DeCarlos Brooks makes some mean cuts on the field. He also does in a barber shop.
Brooks regularly cuts his teammates’ hair – as well as Kenny Dillinghma’s – and is using his platform to give back. On Sunday, he is partnered with the AZ Barber Academy in Tempe to give free haircuts to kids as the school year quickly approaches.
“It means everything to me, giving back to my community, giving back to my people,” Brooks said. “I know how it felt when I was a kid and I got a haircut, so I know when these kids get a haircut, they’ll feel the same way.”
Last year’s inaugural event drew about 40 people, and Brooks hopes to double that number this number. He said fellow teammates and coaches will also be there to show their support.
Happy to announce my second annual

“I think it’s absolutley amazing,” Arizona Barber Academy CEO Hillary Alegre said. “I think it’s so nice to see a local person want to get together with a local business and do things for charity. It’s really, really cool.”
The event is Sunday June 30 from 10 AM-4 PM at the Arizona Barber Academy.
Brooks discusses the event, his expectations for the season and his relationship with running backs coach Shaun Agauno in the video above.
