Cole Luke had a remarkable career as a two-way player for the Hamilton Huskies. That career was capped off by a state championship victory in his final game.
But now Luke can fully look forward to being a member of the number one ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Luke committed to play in South Bend back on November 1st over many offers which included Texas and Oklahoma and even though he was very much intrenched with his current season at Hamilton, he has been pleased to say the least with how the Irish have performed of late.
“When I committed they were like number three of number four but now they have taken it to a whole other level,” said Luke. “So hopefully they can get a national championship as well.”
Luke as mentioned did play on both sides of the ball this season for the Huskies but is going to be strictly a defensive back for Notre Dame. Luke has made a name for himself with his great ball skills and has been touted as not only one of the best defensive backs in the state, but also the country.
Hamilton has put many players into major Division I football programs over the years and that tradition doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. Luke himself credits the coaching staff led by Steve Belles that continues to get players like himself ready to compete at the next level.
“It’s unbelievable,” Luke mentioned. “Coach Belles and the rest of the coaching staff, we obviously wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them. Probably the best coaching staff in Arizona.”
Luke will be keeping a close eye on the Irish as they get set for a national championship. It is his hope he is suiting up with the defending champions come the fall of 2013 in South Bend.
