Chaparral wide receiver and kicker Tommy Christakos has been one of the top pass-catchers out West for multiple years.
He’s staying on the West Coast post-high school after committing to Cal on Sunday while on an official visit.

“(I chose) Cal because not only my relationship with the coaches but it checked off all of my boxes in what I was looking for in a football program and school,” Christakos said.
In two seasons, Christakos caught 86 passes for 1,825 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. He is also a decorated special teams player, averaging 42.4 yards per punt. He converted 90% of his extra points and hit a long of 53-yards on his field goals. Multiple colleges recruited him as a receiver and kicker.
He’s put up numbers as a big target, which is exactly what the Bears want him to be.
“My biggest takeaway was that I am going to fill a position they really need which is a big receiver,” Christakos said. “Also, the relationships the coaches have with each other and their players really stood out to me as something I wanted to be a part of.”
Former Sports360AZ recruiting expert Jason Jewell dubbed Christakos as “the next Mark Andrews,” and the wide receiver has been a huge target for Chaparral quarterback and Ohio State commit Jack Miller.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver sports a 4.0 GPA and holds offers from NAU, ASU, Arizona, Memphis, Utah, San Diego State, Harvard, Iowa State, Princeton, Air Force, Yale, Cal, Army, Nebraska, Arkansas, Purdue, Colorado, UNLV, Kansas State and Michigan State.
Now that he’s made his pledge to Cal, he is looking to prep for the Pac-12 over the next year.
“Obviously my journey has just started so I am always looking to improve to be the best I can be,” Christakos said. “I’m at a good playing weight as a receiver so just going to work on my speed in the off season and getting stronger.”
The wide receiver is the first Arizona player to commit to Cal in the 2020 class, a year after the Bears earned commitments Spencer Brasch, Brayden Rohme, Brett Johnson, Ryan Puskas, Braxten Croteau and DeCarlos Brooks.
Christakos is also the sixth 2020 player to commit to a Pac-12 school, joining Gilbert quarterback Will Plummer (Arizona), Hamilton linebacker Jeremiah Trojan (UCLA), Hamilton offensive lineman Dylan Mayginnes (Washington State), Saguaro kicker Parker Lewis (USC), Red Mountain offensive lineman Ben Bray (ASU) and Williams Field offensive tackle Cooper Darling (Oregon State).
