Casteel High School Wins First 6A State Championship

A thrilling game was settled in the second half by the dominant Casteel Colts, raising the golden ball for the first time in the 6A conference.

Moving to the 6A conference just a few years ago, Casteel has earned the title of state champions after defeating Centennial High School in an action-packed 42-27 win.

First-year head coach Joe Bushman stepped into the role and introduced a new team mantra.

“We have this montra, it’s called pound the rock, it’s about a stone cutter hitting its rock repeatedly, and it doesn’t break.”

Junior quarterback Tee Smith showed his versatility throughout the game, adding touchdowns to the scoreboard by rushing, passing, and receiving.

Smith finished the game strong, running 18 times for 165 yards. Through the air, he was 12 of 17 for 237 yards and one passing touchdown.
