A day after Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians publicly announced his retirement, quarterback Carson Palmer did the same on Tuesday afternoon.
In an open letter, Palmer announced he is walking away from the NFL after 15 years.
The first overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times.
In five years with the Cardinals, he threw for 16,782 yards, 105 touchdowns and 57 interceptions. He was 38-21-1 as a starter for the Bird Gang. In 2017, Palmer appeared in seven games after breaking his left arm.
The Cardinals have already started their process to find their next head coach, and will now need to do the same for their starting quarterback.
