Calais’ keys: Week 1 Seattle Seahawks

Tuesday’s during the season Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell joins Brad Cesmat on ‘Big Guy on Sports’ on XTRA Sports 910 and Pros2Preps.com.

Every week Campbell will share his ‘Calais’ Keys’ on the Red Birds next opponent.

This week he looks ahead to the season opener Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks in Glendale.

Be sound against the run

“Our number one goal is to shut down the run game. Seattle had a really good run game in the pre-season. You know you have Marshawn Lynch back there who is established. I don’t know what his situation is [for Sunday] because he didn’t play in the pre-season, but everybody knows what he can do. We have to shut down the run.”

Make rookie quarterback Russell Wilson beat them through the air

“He’s definitely a great scrambling quarterback as far as what he can do with his legs. We have to really contain him. I think that’s one of the biggest things…make him beat us with his arm, that’s the number one key.”

Be opportunistic on defense

“[We need to] create turnovers. Give our offense, who everybody assumes is going to struggle a little bit early on, short fields to work with. If we can give them plus 50 starting points [around midfield] we can expect to get touchdowns in those situations…I think John Skelton is motivated and wants to show that he can be a good quarterback in this league. I really feel like on defense if we can give them short fields and create turnovers our offense can score a lot of points for us.”
