Brophy’s Logan Powell Talks Wisconsin Commitment

The No. 2 prospect in the state is headed to the Midwest as a Wisconsin Badger. Brophy offensive tackle Logan Powell committed to Wisconsin on Saturday, June 1 while on his official visit.

Just last month he narrowed down his top choices to include: Arizona State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama and Wisconsin.

“When I went there I wasn’t looking to commit but meeting all the players, meeting the rest of the staff, you know learning everything about it…it just felt like home and a place I feel comfortable.”

His choice to become a Badger goes beyond football. He was looking for a program that had the perfect combination of top-tier football and an environment where he could start the next chapter of his life. Wisconsin had the added perk of having an opposite climate to that of Arizona.

“It’s somewhere where I can have my own life, my own college experience. I liked that it’s close to two lakes, I really like places where it’s green and not hot 100 percent of the time.”

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Brophy Bronco was recruited by Wisconsin offensive line coach, AJ Blazek.

“It’s almost like a father-son relationship,” Powell said. “He started recruiting me in the beginning of my junior year and we were constantly talking, at least once a week he would give me a phone call.”

Powell says his coach, Jason Jewell’s advice helped him narrow down his options and truly understand what to look for in a college or university. The family atmosphere with an opportunity to grow is what set Wisconsin apart from the rest – and that family feeling really came to light after he made his commitment official.

“When I first committed I talked with coach Blazek but there was another recruit that was also a commit outside the door. I told him and he was super hyped for me and then other O-lineman were also in the hallway and they came in the room to hype me up too. It was awesome.”
