Brittney Griner sends direct letter to President Biden: “Please do all you can to bring us home.”

Well, not for all Americans.

“On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those men who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran,” Brittney Griner penned in a handwritten letter to President Joe Biden. “It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.”

It’s been 137 days since her initial detainment in Russia for what prosecutors allege was two cartridges containing 0.252 grams and 0.45 grams of hashish, or cannabis, oil.

Griner’s trial began on Friday, July 1 and was adjourned by the judge until July 7 when two witnesses failed to show.

Her letter, partially shared by White House Representatives, was a direct appeal to the President for not just herself, but all Americans detained in Russia.

“I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don’t forget about me and the other detainees,” Griner wrote. “Please do all you can to bring us home.”

Russian state media outlets have suggested that Griner could end up being traded along with Paul Whelan, a former Marine serving a 16-year sentence on an espionage conviction that the U.S. has called a setup.

“As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any of my accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” Griner wrote.

One of the only forms of communication Griner has had with friends and family have been notes sent and received through her Russian attorneys; all messages are monitored by Russian officials.

“I believe in you,” Griner wrote. “I still have so much good to do with my freedom that you can help restore.”

“I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates! It kills me to know they are suffering so much right now,” Griner wrote. “I am grateful for whatever you can do at this moment to get me home.”

There will be a ‘Bring BG Home’ Rally at Footprint Center on Wednesday, July 6.

Griner’s trial in Russia continues on Thursday, July 7.
