The Herm Edwards era officially took the field on Tuesday with Arizona State kicking off spring football.
Edwards was up-tempo throughout the entire practice and showed off some dance moves to Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me” when the song came over the sound system.
Overall, Edwards said the first day was a bit sloppy but the effort was there. To ensure the Sun Devils hit the ground running day one, Edwards did a walkthrough of practice for his coaches last Thursday and then the coaches walked through with the players on Friday.
It’s Edwards’ first day leading a team in over a decade (if you aren’t counting his coaching stints as an Under Armour All-American Bowl coach). The new Arizona State head coach said he felt right at home getting back to coaching.
He stressed to the spring group to make the most of the opportunity spring football provides. He said 21 additional players (the 2018 recruiting class) will be joining them in the fall and he feels “five or six” of those players could start.
He wrapped up his media availability talking about the impact fans have at these workouts and how he isn’t concerned about opposing teams scouting the Sun Devils.
Spring football continues over the next month with the spring game happening on April 13th.
