Arizona Wildcat outfielder Chase Davis has been widely considered as one of the best bats in this year’s MLB Draft class. The St. Louis Cardinals are embracing that bat – and then some – by selecting him with the No. 21 overall pick in this year’s draft.
MLB.com had this to say about Davis’ attributes at the next level:
He has the ability to drive the ball to all fields, with plenty of opposite-field pop and a buggy whip of a swing. There is some swing-and-miss to his game, though he impressed scouts with a better approach in 2023, showing he can hit enough to get to that power.
Many see the comparison to Carlos Gonzalez when seeing Davis:
Over two seasons starting with the Wildcats, Davis tallied 148 hits, 30 doubles, 39 home runs and 128 RBI at a .328 batting average.
This is the second straight year Arizona has had a player drafted in the first round. Last year, Oakland selected Wildcat catcher Daniel Susac with the No. 19 overall pick.
The Cardinals have had a history of drafting big bats with Arizona ties. In 2018, they selected Phoenix-native Nolan Gorman with their first round selection.
