Having success at the Pac-12 baseball tournament is crucial to both ASU and Arizona’s postseason resumés.
The Wildcats more than likely have to win the whole thing to get to the postseason, and ASU needs a strong showing after struggling the past few weeks.
Statements were made by both teams in their first round matchup. The Wildcats were playing like their backs were truly against the wall. The Sun Devils were there physically, but their minds might have been on summer break already as the Wildcats tacked on four first inning runs and cruised to a 12-3 win.
The Pac-12 tournament format is pool play, so the Wildcats will face Oregon State tomorrow at 10 am. The Sun Devils have the day off tomorrow before playing the Beavers at 10 am on Thursday. The winner of each pool and one wildcard team will advance to the semifinals on Friday.
The Wildcats will look to follow the same script tomorrow, and the Sun Devils have plenty to examine before their next game on Thursday.
