Amaya Williams Growing from Freshman Contributor to Veteran Leader

Amaya Williams was a freshman on a veteran squad in her first season wth ASU women’s hoops.

Now, with a year under her belt, she’s showing she can lead. She’s done so in team conditioning and leading drills as the Sun Devils look to make back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.

Coach Molly Miller has seen her point guard continue to grow. The duo have a strong connection dating back to Williams’ high school recruitment. She committed to GCU when Miller was the head coach there. When Miller made the move to Tempe, an early call was to Williams to have her join her on the Sun Devils about 20 minutes away from her original destination. Follow a coach to a new location is a somewhat common occurrence in college sports now, but it was an added bonus that Williams was already familiar with the greater Phoenix area.

Williams will look to expand her role on the court and in the locker room in her sophomore campaign.
