Rashon Burno Accepts Head Coaching Job At Northern Illinois

Arizona State associate head coach Rashon Burno is moving on from the Sun Devil basketball program and has accepted a job at Northern Illinois.

This is big for a variety of reasons, including the fact that Burno and head coach Bobby Hurley are very close and Burno has been one of Hurley’s go-to associates over the last few seasons. Additionally, Burno has played a pivotal hand in recruiting, helping the program land highly-touted recruits in recent seasons.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity,” Burno said in a press release from Northern Illinois. “Going through the process and having a chance to meet with Sean (Frazier), (Senior Associate Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Sport AD) Courtney (Vinson), President Freeman and the Board of Trustees made it that much more desirable for me. I believe I am aligned with what their vision is for the future, not only for men’s basketball but also for the entire student body. I was very impressed with the overall vision and that made it easy for me to want to be at NIU.”

In November, Burno was listed on The Athletic’s 25 Next Head Coaches. Now he will be departing from Tempe. According to 247Sports, Burno will remain with ASU through the rest of the season before moving over NIU.

The Sun Devils host Utah today at noon before beginning the Pac-12 Tournament next Wednesday.
