Since the Diamondbacks traded for him six years ago, Zac Gallen has quickly developed into an ace.
Gallen is coming off a 2023 season where he made his first All-Star team and was voted third in Cy Young voting while leading the D-backs to a World Series appearance.
He currently has a 3.12 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched and is rehabbing back from a hamstring injury.
With ace talent and ace production comes a contract worthy of an ace.
Gallen is under contract with the Diamondbacks through the 2025 season, and he told Brad Cesmat he is approaching his next contract with an open mind.
“I’m on both sides of the fence,” Gallen said when asked about his future. “I love it here. My girlfriend is from here, her family is from here. I’m here now six years so I’m pretty acclimated to the Valley. I would love to be here.”
But baseball is also a business, and Gallen fully recognizes that.
“You just see how this game is and how things change,” Gallen said. “So I think I would be a fool to keep the blinders on, but at the same time I love it here.”
Gallen described Phoenix as a place he could see himself finishing out his career.
“Things will work themselves out the way that they are supposed to,” Gallen said. “I will say this: Phoenix has not made a bad impression on me by any means.”

Helping the Community
Gallen and Shamrock Farms are working together to support St. Mary’s Food Bank to reach children with food insecurity, which can be especially prevalent in the summer months. Together, Shamrock Farms and Gallen’s ZG23 Charitable Fun are donating 2,300 gallons of milk.
“It was time for me to get out in the community,” Gallen said.
“This just felt like a no-brainer. I got this feeling in my gut that this was something i need to be a part of.”
