Williams optimistic HOF dream will become reality in NYC

Arizona Sports News online

Aeneas Williams is hoping the third time’s a charm.

A member of the Cardinals’ Ring of Honor and one of the greatest players to wear red and white is a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist. Saturday 46 Hall of Fame voters will vote and determine if the eight-time Pro-Bowler and member of the 1990’s All-Decade Team can add the HOF to his resume.

Humble, as always, Williams isn’t about change his beliefs. There will no politicking this week when he heads to the Big Apple, simply a time appreciate and respect his peers. This weekend it will be left in the hands of the voters and no one else.

“I’m just excited that I’m named among some of the best guys that have ever played the game,” Williams told Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat in a phone interview Monday. “Having the opportunity to get into a place my friend Marshall Falk called ‘football immortality,’ it’s pretty awesome.”

A rock on the field and one of the classiest players off it (Williams won the 1999 Bart Starr Man of the Year Award) during his 13-year career with the Cards and later Rams, also shared his views on Seattle’s controversial cornerback Richard Sherman. Sherman has been in the headlines since his infamous post-game interview on FOX moments after the Seahawks punched their ticket to face Denver in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

“Richard is one of the best at playing the game.”  he explained to Cesmat. “He doesn’t mind telling you that. I’m a proponent, personally, of [letting] others say it but I don’t knock other people’s approaches.”

Williams will be traveling from St. Louis, where he pastors a church, to NYC this week with his wife to do some work with the NFL and hopefully hear good news on Saturday regarding the Hall of Fame.
