Wildcat and Sun Devil fans get ready for +, Durant fan chatter, Purdy moments, more…

Arizona Sports News online

If you are an Arizona and Arizona State athletics fan, you’d better update your subscription to ESPN+. Like the Pac-12 Network, the BIG 12 plans to have most of its content on ESPN+. I watch some Grand Canyon and NAU games on +, and it’s fine.  The production isn’t going to win an Emmy, but when it’s just family and friends watching a wrestling or softball game, it’s more than adequate. The Pac-12 did get it right by having a channel that would show games from all sports on campus, but they did it wrong by having no year-round content to bring in a consistent audience. Of course, the little detail that Larry Scott, Michael Crow, and a few others failed to grasp was having the Pac-12 Network on DIRECT TV for some distribution. ESPN+ will likely use Cronkite students to fill many roles and decrease costs. What will the University of Arizona do on that front? Regardless, ESPN+ should be part of your entertainment budget in 2024…

Kaitlin Clark!! Have you watched her ball out?….

I’m not wasting too much time on the who/what/where/when/why of Brock Purdy was NEVER  seriously recruited by Arizona State. We’ve gone down that rabbit hole more than a few times. It’s safe to say that utter incompetence wouldn’t be strong enough to describe that era when it came to instate recruiting. Purdy wasn’t the only Arizona high school player overlooked/ignored by the previous staff. I’ve done that side of the Purdy story enough. The game in front of him is all that matters…

Talking with Shawn Purdy the last few days, the incredible takeaways from the NFC Title game victory included chopping it up with Joe Montana on the field before the game. Meeting  “Journey” and how the band is a big fan of Brock. Former 49er quarterback Jeff Garcia approached Shawn in the stands at halftime to give him a pep talk. It’s interesting to hear details on Super Bowl tickets and travel events. Much more from the family in the coming days right here and on the TV shows…

Now that the Big 12 football schedule is out, I see where the annual Sun Devil vs. Arizona lightly watched and attended game was kept on the Thanksgiving weekend schedule. IF the game is on FOX and not some secondary channel, and IF the game isn’t opposite Alabama v Auburn or Michigan v Ohio State, then it’s a smart business move; anything short of that will be another botched opportunity. You can put up a test pattern on the screen if the time slot is played simultaneously as those two monster rivals…

I look forward to Nick Saban playing in the Pro-Am at TPC Scottsdale next Wednesday. How many NIL jokes will be made from the crowd if he hits the green on 16…

You’re missing out if you haven’t been to the Open on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Try it, you’ll thank me later…

Former Sun Rex Chapman has a book coming out later this Spring. I’ll read it first before going into depth…

The ESPN basketball pairing of Richard Jefferson and JJ Redick is a fun, informative listen. It made the Suns vs. Brooklyn game a good time for my two-and-a-half hours Tuesday night…

Charles Barkley giving it to fans was a good time back then. The same goes for Kevin Durant today…

I was at Camelback Ranch in Glendale on Tuesday, working on one of our TV shows(currently producing four a week). The Dodgers will report for spring training next week and break camp a week early in March for games in Korea against the Padres. The Ohtani factor will be evident to the patrons who pull in for a game. A temporary media work center that can house up to 300 journalists is being erected in the parking lot. I had never walked around the back side of that facility to see the Dodger mementos. So impressive!…
