War of Attrition in August, Lebron v Trump, Speaking Event

Starting center A.Q. Shipley gets carted off at practice on Saturday. Deone Bucannon hyperextends his knee this past week. Yes, welcome to the silly season of the NFL. Both Shipley and Bucannon are going to be needed in December, not in August. Every year we see the work force of the NFL put in harms way for games and field time that don’t count. Sam Bradford  had one season ending injury take place in a preseason game back in 2014. I don’t need to see much of Bradford over the next four weeks. Sure, a preseason game or two at the most is  sensible, but the players simply don’t have enough power in their union to stand up to the owners and say “we don’t need to be practicing in late July, early August for a season that goes through February. The war of attrition has become the biggest enemy of teams quest for a postseason run. I don’t know any people who are excited for this Saturdays tilt with the LA Chargers. I know lots of people who can’t wait for September 9th, when the Cardinals host Washington. Saying “this is the way it’s always been, look at how strong the TV ratings are, just accept it” doesn’t work for me. When I make a list of “What’s Wrong With Sports” NFL preseason football is at the top of the list…

Ken Kendrick has gone through a few GM’s, but Mike Hazen is easily the best of his hires. Not even close. He hasn’t missed on many, if any deals. He’s had to clean up some bad ones left by the former administration…

Gotta get Robbie Ray on track. Did you have him pegged as the Diamondback starting pitcher that would drop 5 of his 6 starts after July 1st? Me either…

Lebron James called Donald Trump “a bum” a year ago. He also said this about the President in August 2017 “just made [hate] fashionable again.” So when Trump ripped Lebron on Friday “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon,” Trump posted. “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.” this was just a volley back in James direction. It was silly of course. but it wasn’t anything that should come as a surprise…

Not a more intriguing opening night game on the Arizona high school schedule than Casteel hosting Centennial on Friday night August 17th. Colts QB Gunner Cruz hasn’t played a team even close to the caliber of the Coyotes. A great measuring stick for the Washington State recruit. If you’re a fan of sports, this is the place to be that night…

I am going to be on the speaking trail next weekend if you want to stop in. Grove Bible Church(2777 S Gilbert Rd, 85286) mens group. Sunday night August 12th at 7pm. A Night of Sports Inspiration. Three of my favorite people  will share their life’s journey through sports.  Two on stage, one on SKYPE. Tiffany Tate, Tommy Hambicki, and John Lott…
