At Chaparral High School, the number on a jersey is more than just a number. It’s a legacy. In an effort to pay respects to alumni who made it to the NFL, several current Firebirds wear the numbers of former greats. Many of the players were handpicked by the former pros themselves. With first-year head coach Trace Carroll at the helm, the program is rediscovering its identity with a combination of tradition and a chance to rebuild.
