Over the weekend, the USA Basketball 3x Nationals took place at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa.
I was hired by them to be the emcee for the weekend. It was one of the most fun sporting event weekends I’ve been around.
There were 16 women’s teams comprised of top college talent and pros of different leagues. There were 8 men’s teams loaded with great talent that only true hoop followers would know.
If you’ve never watched 3×3 basketball before, you’re missing out. The action is quick. Each game is 10 minutes or ends when one team scores 21 points.
Being next to the pickle ball courts at AAG was a great vibe. The outdoor hooping in a “controlled” tent atmosphere is a great call. There’s a reason why Jimmer Fredette picked this location and it’s a great match for all parties involved.
The freelance DJs played and mixed music nonstop. The energy never truly leaves.
The crowds over the weekend were smaller, but full of energy and excitement.
It was cool to learn more about national names that everyone will know soon, including Milaysia Fulwilley. The former top prep star played two years at South Carolina before transferring to LSU this offseason. Her team, Chaos, won the tournament and she was named MVP. She was the best player in the tournament, at least according to my eyes. She dominated against three players playing for South Carolina. She also drilled the game winner in overtime to secure the title.
That’s Money, MiLaysia

The Phoenix Mercury were smart to partner up too, with bobblehead giveaways and a booth on Saturday.
There will be more USA basketball events taking place at AAG in the months and years to come. I highly recommend going to watch.
