Hamilton QB Shough Flips Commitment From UNC to Oregon

Tyler Shough’s offseason ascension from a relative unknown nationally to the top quarterback in Arizona and one of the best in the nation was one of the most intriguing storylines in the recruiting landscape this year.

He committed to North Carolina this summer just prior to a dominant performance at The Opening.

But then last week he took a visit to Oregon on Hamilton’s bye week. Willie Taggart made an effective pitch, and Shough re-opened his commitment on Saturday morning before quickly committing to Oregon.

“I’ve learned a lot through the process. Things just changed from when I originally committed and new options were opened up,” Shough told Sports360AZ through a direct message. “Oregon is overall just a better fit to play, the coaches, the school, the proximity etc.”

Shough’s family has some ties to the state of Oregon. Tyler’s mother was born in Springfield, OR and Shough said his grandfather helped build Autzen Stadium with the Wildish contracting company.

The 6-foot-5, 195 pound second-year starter for the Huskies has throwing for 1,800 yards with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions. Hamilton sits at 6-1 on the year.

Hamilton Commitments

With Tyler Shough’s commitment to Oregon, that makes two Pac-12 pledges from Hamilton this year with offensive lineman Hunter Mayginnes committing to Arizona State this summer. Running back Jawhar Jordan has also committed to Syracuse.

Mixing his passions for sports and storytelling, Jordan comes to Sports360az as a multimedia reporter/producer looking to share the best stories Arizona has to offer. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram @JordyHamm
