Torey Lovullo Reflects on Winning 2017 NL Manager Of the Year

It was a Cinderella season for Torey Lovullo on the field last year.

He preached family, he surrounded himself with experienced coaches and he thoroughly thought out every decision along the way. Helping turn a team around from 69-93 to 93-69 as well as an appearance in the postseason in his first full season as a manager can will get some people’s attention, and when it was all said and done, Lovullo was named the 2017 National League Manager of the Year.

He was presented with his award Thursday night before the Diamondbacks took the field to open up their 2018 season, but it still hasn’t sunk in.

When asked what the award meant to him Thursday afternoon, it looked like he was still wrestling with the emotions of that recognition:

He preached family, he surrounded himself with many of those coaches and he was thoughtful in his response. Now, Lovullo and the Diamondbacks will keep the same approach in 2018, and their hoping for the same results.
