Top in-state football recruits talk future, Arizona State and Arizona

Arizona Sports News online

Saturday over 200 of the top high school football players from Arizona and along the west coast gathered for the first Rivals Camp Series from Yahoo! Sports presented by Under Armour. It took place at Hamilton High School in south Chandler as athletes competed against one another in different drills coordinated by camp coaches on site.

The 2014 Arizona recruiting class is viewed by many as the best collection of high-level athletes in state history as numerous juniors have already received Division I offers months before starting their final season of high school football.

Below I spotlight some of the top players at the invite-only camp Pros2Preps.com talked to with the latest updates on their recruiting, including their thoughts on Arizona State and Arizona.

Kyle Allen, Desert Mountain (2014) quarterback: “Wisconsin was my latest offer [after Texas A&M]. It’s been a lot of fun I’m just trying to play through all my options and see where I want to go. There’s definitely a chance [he could sign with ASU]. I talked to Coach [Mike] Norvell all the time. He messages me all the time. I talked to Coach [Todd] Graham for about an hour a couple Saturday’s ago. We had a great talk. They’re good guys…it’s fun.”

Christian Kirk, Scottsdale Saguaro (2015) wide receiver: “[Friday] I was just offered by Cal. [Last week] I went down to ASU to talk to Coach Alexander their wide receivers coach. We sat down and watched a little film, but the recruiting process is going pretty good. I really like what [ASU] did this year. Coach [Mike] Norvell he’s telling what I could do and what role I’d play in the offense. I really like what they’re doing there and I think I’d fit in well.”

Casey Tucker, Hamilton (2014) offensive lineman: “I’m still committed [to USC] but I’m still looking around to make sure I made the right decision for myself and my family…probably this summer I’ll be taking some unofficial visits.”

J.T. Gray, Coolidge (2014) safety: “ASU, UofA, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon State have offered me already. Colorado State, Colorado, Montana, Alabama and Washington are talking to me right now. Some [coaches] want me to play linebacker, some free safety. I really think that I can go to the next level and play. I’m looking forward to it.”

Qualen Cunningham, Hamilton (2014) defensive lineman: “At this stage it’s kinda been picking up a little more. I’m getting a lot of love from Texas A&M, Washington, ASU, USC, UCLA. It’s really humbling to me. A lot of people are saying [Texas A&M] is the leader in the clubhouse because my dad when there, but it’s definitely open. All my options are open. I haven’t made any visits yet. ASU, UofA…they’re both great schools, [as well].”

Natrell Curtis, Mountain Pointe (2014) offensive lineman: “I’ve picked up a few big offers [recently] Notre Dame and Oklahoma. I’m taking a trip to UCLA and USC (he was offered UCLA). I’m open to everything right now. The relationship is great [with ASU], as well.”
