Suns GM Search Should Stop with EJ

The Suns GM search doesn’t require a travel budget. No need to fly private to points outside of the 602. Robert Sarver simply needs to find a golf cart and invite Eddie Johnson to go along for the ride. This isn’t brain surgery. We all know the deal with the Suns. Robert is going to be involved(meddle) but give me someone who’s been around the organization longer than EJ. who has the pedigree to be a GM.
I haven’t talked to EJ about the current opening. I’ve brought it up to him a couple of times on the air during the last nine-non playoff years that Robert put together. He was interested then, no reason to believe he wouldn’t be now.

He was mentored by Cotton Fitzsimmons. I’ll take that. He comes from the Jerry Colangelo tree. Another positive.
He knows his way through and around the agents and power players of the NBA and College game. He wouldn’t get used like the Suns did with LaMarcus Aldridge or Blake Griffin. He’d be a face and voice to recruit STAR players to Phoenix. Robert’s track record of hires in the front office produced the likes ofJosh Childress, Hakeem Warrick, Dragan Bender, Marquese Chriss, etc., etc, etc. How about the Suns opportunity to trade for Porzingis, but Robert squashed it and took Josh Jackson.

Eddie Johnson and David Griffin are two names that would wake up the fan base and send a message to Adam Silver that perhaps Robert is figuring it out. Yes, both are links to the golden era of the franchise. Something that Robert hasn’t figured out how to use.

If Robert hired both of them and disappeared, I believe the Titanic could be saved. At a minimum, out of respect for his loyalty and service to the organization, Robert should strongly consider bringing EJ upstairs in a position of authority. Having Eddie Johnson watch bad basketball with a headset on is no way to use a sharp basketball mind already in the organization.
It’s not that hard Robert. You’ve made it very difficult…
