Desert Edge has put together one of the better defenses in the state in recent years, and headlining that group is 2021 defensive back Steven Ortiz Jr.
Ortiz is now in his third year starting for the Scorpions and is coming off a season where he picked off five passes. This year, he is second on the team in tackles with 48 and has five passes defended with an interception.
The defensive back has also had a busy recruitment, holding offers from Arizona, Syracuse, NAU, Rutgers, Penn State, William & Mary, Oregon, Oregon State, Nebraska, San Diego State, Louisiana Laffayette, Cal and Washington State.
He caught up with Sports360AZ to talk about his latest offers, how the Scorpion defense has stepped up and previewed his visit to Penn State.
