“Stanky” highly regarded, Woolridge makes GCU debut

Andy Stankiewicz has done a terrific job building the baseball program at Grand Canyon University. The ‘Lopes finished their inaugural WAC season in second place, likely will have two players taken in the MLB amateur draft this weekend and Stankiewicz’ team played with a disciplined style that led to thirty wins… GCU CEO Brian Mueller and Athletic Director Keith Baker made a couple of very good hires in the last two years in Stankiewicz and Dan Majerle. WIth the future of Arizona State head coach Tim Esmay uncertain at best, I’ve had some ASU baseball faithful ask about the job that Stankiewicz has done. GCU won at Tucson over the UofA and had victories at U.C. Irvine and Kansas too…
The GCU basketball program starts summer workouts Thursday morning. Recent Washington State transfer Royce Woolridge will be on display for the first time. The former Sunnyslope high star began his college career at Kansas for BIll Self. The world tour has led him back to Phoenix…
One last note on GCU, the on-campus arena is ahead of schedule to expand seating to around 7-thousand. I’m hearing that the project will be done by September…
