Signing Day is Decision Day for Cassius Peat

Arizona Sports News online

Four Star prospect out of Corona del Sol Cassius Peat committed to UCLA back on October 13th but just over a month ago after the conclusion of the 2014 high school season, decided to re-open his recruitment. His original top five included Arizona State, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in addition to UCLA and those remain the schools in the mix.

For Peat, he has a timetable for when his final decision will be made.

“I am going to decide on Signing Day,” said Peat. “I have a couple schools that I am looking at, I have narrowed it down.”

The 2015 linebacker will be busy with his recruitment and utilizing everything he can so that his decision is one that is one that he is confident with in the end.

“I am definitely going to have some in-home’s (visits),” mentioned Peat. “I might go back to Michigan State but I don’t know yet. I still have two official visits left.”

Peat understands this process and the stresses that can come with it seeing as both his older brothers went through it as well. Having watched it unfold for them, it has helped Peat in dealing with the process himself.

“It’s definitely a business and I have learned a lot from both of them going through the process with my parents,” Peat explained. “So I think it is kind of an advantage for me.”

In the mean time, Peat has the ideal stress reliever while dealing with his football recruitment. Something that he has had a great passion for all four years with Corona in addition to football. And that is basketball. The Aztecs have won a state title in each of his three years on the basketball team. His quest for a fourth in four years is a little different for him has he takes on more of a leadership role than he has in years past.

“You take on a bigger role as you get older and obviously being a senior now,” Peat stated. “A lot more vocal now, definitely can be a leader so I just try to be a leader every day and set an example for the younger guys.”

“It (basketball) definitely takes my mind off of the recruiting and stuff like that, especially now being on Christmas break with no school just going out and being able to play basketball,” he added. “It’s fun.”

National Signing Day 2015 will be Wednesday, February 4th.
