Series In Review: Daniel Descalso Everywhere

After earning a sweep in the City of Brotherly Love a few weeks ago, the Diamondbacks took on the Philadelphia Phillies in the friendly confines of Chase Field and walked away with a series win. Behind the bats of Daniel Descalso, Jake Lamb and Chris Herrmann and solid starts in all four games, the Snakes walked away with a 3-1 series win and are 16-6 in June. Here are the takeaways:

Daniel Descalso: Utility Man To The Snakes

Good ballclubs have guys who can come in off the bench with clutch hits. They also have guys who can be plugged into the lineup at multiple positions. The Diamondbacks are a good team and have both in Daniel Descalsco, and he was on full display this series against the Phillies.

The first-year Diamondback played left field, third base, first base and second base this series and went 8/17 with two runs scored and five RBIs. He had the walk-off single on Sunday and the go-ahead hit on Monday. In this series alone, he raised his batting average 29 points to .238 on the year.

RISP-ect

The Diamondbacks kicked their series off 0/6 with runners in scoring positon. In the Diamondbacks’ win, they went 10/29. By contrast, the Phillies hit 3/23 with runners in scoring position. On the year, the Diamondbacks are fourth in average with runners in scoring position (.293) and are tied for third when opponents are in that scenario. Their opponents are hitting .234

Patrick Corbin On The Rise?

Statistically, left-handed pitcher Pat Corbin has struggled this year and has seemed to be the odd man out in the Diamdonbacks’ rotation. He earned the only loss of the series, but he has strung together some really good starts as of late. In his last three starts, he has dropped his earned run average by a half run. On Friday, he gave up an earned run while throwing 6.2 innings and striking out five. This is his longest start since April 25th.

Early Loss

The Diamondbacks got off on the wrong foot this series with a 6-1 loss, but they came away with the series win. This is the ninth time of 23 series where they opened the series with a loss. So far this year, the Diamondbacks have 13 series wins, six series losses and split four times.
