Scorpions’ Defense Gives Them “Edge”

Desert Edge linebacker Eric Marsh has an interesting way to sum up the Scorpions defense:

“If you can run and hit and put a kiss on somebody, then we’re going to go ahead and put you out there and make some plays.”

The Scorpions have a weird way of showing their affection.

Offensively, the team puts up 37 points per games. Defensively, the Scorpions have given up 20+ points just three times in 2016.

The Scorpions return plenty of talent from their 2015 state title team: Eric Marsh, Treyvon Williams, Dante Blissit, Roshaun Johnson among others. Desert Edge also has a knack for finding young contributors that turn into multi-year stars. Sophomores Milton Rodgers, the team’s leading tackler, and defensive lineman Nassir Sims fit that bill.

The defense sets its sights on fourth-seeded Centennial on Thursday night in a matchup that has a state title feel to it despite these decorated programs squaring off in the second round.

If the Scorpions want to advance, they’ll have to put more than a few kisses on the Coyotes.
