Senior Pinnacle softball pitcher and Arizona commit Marissa Schuld has been named Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
Schuld led Pinnacle to a state championship in 2018, while striking out 151 batters in 76 innings during the season, according to MaxPreps.
She was 11-1 on the year for the Pioneers with a 0.74 ERA.
Schuld’s impact wasn’t just limited to pitching, as she also hit 16 home runs in addition to 12 doubles and 57 RBI.
“Marissa is a very accomplished pitcher that hits as well,” Arizona head coach Mike Candrea said in a statement released by Arizona Athletics in November. “I love her competitiveness. I think she has a good chance of being really good because she’s very meticulous. She’s one of those kids that has a very strong passion of being highly successful,” he said.
Schuld capped off her high school career with a 1.38 ERA, 54 wins and 617 total strike outs. She said she plans to continue her success at the University of Arizona.
“I am excited to be a part of the University of Arizona because it is a school of tradition and I am excited to learn and grow as a person and player from one of the best coaching staffs,” Schuld said in the statement. “I am looking forward to competing every day for a national championship.”
