Sahuaro Offensive Lineman Jonah Miller Goes In-Depth on Oregon Commitment

Southern Arizona has seen its recruiting profile raise significantly over the past few years with national recruits Bijan Robinson, Lathan Ransom, Bruno Fina and Jamarye Joiner all heading off the Power 5 schools in recent years.

Sahuaro offensive tackle Jonah Miller is the next in line to head off to a big-time college football program after committing to Oregon on Monday.

The 6-foot-8, 285-pound tackle had a final six of the Ducks, Washington, USC, ASU, Texas and Penn State.

He is the third Arizona prospect to commit to the Ducks in the 2021 class, joining Mesquite quarterback Ty Thompson and Saguaro offensive tackle Bram Walden. The Ducks also earned commitments from Saguaro offensive lineman Jaylan Jeffers and 2018 Hamilton quarterback Tyler Shough in recent years.

While the coronavirus pandemic has put in-person visits on hold, Miller and his family took stock in where he felt most comfortable, and that was in Eugene. He has been on-campus twice and knew when he arrived, it was a place where he could thrive.

“I felt at home,” Miller said. “I could see myself going here.”

Miller transferred from Salpointe Catholic to Tucson Sahuaro this offseason. While he transitions to a new school and eventually to college live, he is thankful for his family, teammates who had gone through the recruiting process last year like Robinson, Ransom and Fina. He also said he would not be where he is today without the guidance of former Salpointe head coach Dennis Bene, who stepped down at the end of last year, and his offensive line coach Al Alexander, who has served as a mentor and role model long before Miller stepped foot on Salpointe Catholic.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better coach or (offensive line) coach in high school,” Miller said. “Coach Bene brought us up as great young men and he taught us lessons I’ll never forget. My godfather, Coach Alexander, he’s the best offensive line coach in the state. The way he teaches the game is individual to each of us. It’s so meticulous in how he does it. It’s so perfect.”
