#SagU Sends Two More To Division I

Arizona Sports News online

There are two moments that young athletes in particular work so hard to accomplish: to win a state championship and to be able to sign on National Signing Day. Letter of Intent day is the day all of their hard work on and off the field comes full circle for the future.

Wednesday just so happened to be that day, National Signing Day.

For two athletes from Saguaro High School that dream came true. Senior cornerback Cam Nash committed to Army West Point and Senior free safety Danny Rivera is heading off to the University of Washington.

Playing as a defensive back at Saguaro isn’t easy, especially when you have the top corner in the nation, Georgia signee Kelee Ringo, is holding it down across from you. It’s easy to get overlooked or hang your head, but Nash nor Rivera ever did. They rose to the challenge and that is evident in their Division I commitments.

“It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up being able to play a high level of Division I football,” Nash said to Sports360AZ.com after signing with Army. “Get a great education, guaranteed career after and being able to relieve that stress of having to pay for college for my parents. It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

With Nash heading to West Point, his friend and teammate, Danny Rivera will be playing int the exact opposite direction across the map to the Pacific Northwest to be a Husky.

“I have been hearing about them (the DB’s) since I was a freshman,” Rivera, who is a preferred walk-on at U-Dub, explained to Sports360AZ.com. “That they have the best DB’s, defensive coordinator, defensive staff. So that was something I was really interested in being a part of and just the scheme. It seems like a a big family up there.”

A family is what it’s all about.

A football family.

For Saguaro head coach, Jason Mohns, who has guided and helped these boys become young men, his hope for them is, “to go have a great experience, get a great education, be a part of a championship caliber program and just the opportunity to be able to continue to play the game they love.”

Congrats to all athletes who are going on to continue their education and athletic career.
