Rubenzer says Cal fits him perfectly

Arizona Sports News online

Another great Arizona quarterback has ended their recruitment.

On Thursday evening, Saguaro 2014 quarterback Luke Rubenzer, who last season threw for over 2800 yards and 36 touchdowns plus rushed for just under 1,200 yards, committed to new head coach Sonny Dykes and the California Golden Bears.

“I went to their camp last week and Coach Franklin (Cal offensive coordinator) has always liked me but he needed Coach Dykes to like me,” Rubenzer said. “Then on Tuesday, Coach Mohns (Saguaro head coach) and Coach Franklin talked and he asked if I would commit if I was offered.”

Flash forward to Thursday, and it did not take long for Rubenzer to announce his commitment.

“I will get to play superior football and  get a great education, it’s everything I want,” Rubenzer explained. “Every player wants to play in the NFL, but at a school like Cal, you have the great education to fall back on.”

Rubenzer has a 4.2 GPA and was being pursued by Ivy League schools as well as all of the military academies. There were reports that Arizona State as well as Wisconsin were very interested in Rubenzer but had not offered. He is yet to make an official visit to any schools and now he only plans to make one.

“I will only make one official visit to Cal, that’s it,” Rubenzer mentioned. “Cal is where I want to go, their offense fits me perfectly. We run a lot of the same stuff at Saguaro. I don’t want to go anywhere else.”

Saguaro is expecting a big season coming up with Rubenzer going into his senior season along with 2014 offensive lineman Alex Anderson and 2015 wide receiving stud Christian Kirk.
