Curt Schilling didn’t like the roof open when he played for the Diamondbacks. He was convinced that the ball didn’t travel well when the lid was on. An advantage for him.
In 2001, I was walking downstairs with a team executive, and Schilling was on a radio interview complaining about the roof being open for his start. “Tough Sh%t Curt, pitch better,” this person responded. So. earlier today, I asked Torey Lovullo about the roof being open for tonight’s Game Three of the World Series. “I know that some have said when it’s open (the roof), it carries a little bit more. As long as we know the landscape and nothing changes, I’m fine with it”.
He has studied this subject. ” I look at a lot of park-adjusted numbers, especially for balls that are hit into certain areas of this ballpark, I know it does not carry well from gap to gap, and even when it’s open, it plays legit. So, it doesn’t matter to me as long as both teams know and it’s the same field, we will go out there and get it done.”
