The historic 65th running of the Daytona 500 kicked off the NASCAR 75 celebration this weekend as JTG Daugherty Racing and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. solidified their name in NASCAR history.
Stenhouse becomes the third consecutive first-time winner in the Great American Race and becomes the first victor of the season. Keep an eye out here at Sports360AZ as we continue our NASCAR coverage to NASCAR Championship Weekend at Phoenix Raceway Nov. 3-5 to crown the champion of the sport’s 75th season.
Joey Logano had to settle for a second place finish, Christopher Bell finished third, Chris Buescher claimed fourth, and Tucson’s Alex Bowman earned his first career top-five finish at Daytona. Glendale’s Michael McDowell was up front for a large portion of the race but a a late-race caution resulted in a 28th place finish for the 2021 Daytona 500 champion.
The sport moves to round two of the season with their west coast swing at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Cali., on Feb. 26. NASCAR returns to Phoenix Raceway for a championship preview to cap off the western trip from March 10-12.
