The 30-year-old left-handed pitcher has been a familiar thorn in the Snakes’ side over the years. In his career, Bumgarner has thrown 229.1 innings against Arizona. The only team he’s thrown more innings against is San Diego. In 35 starts against Arizona, he’s posted a 2.63 ERA against Arizona and has struck out 217 batters.
The southpaw is a three-time World Series winner and has a career 3.19 ERA and posted a 37.1 WAR.
Additionally, Bumgarner is one of the best hitting pitchers in the league and has hit 19 home runs win his career with three of those coming against Arizona.
The Diamondbacks felt they had plenty of rotation depth entering the offseason, even without an addition of Bumgarner. Robbie Ray, Alex Young, Merrill Kelly, Luke Weaver, Zac Gallen and Mike Leake all return as rotation options. Ray, who is entering the last year of his contract, has been linked to trade rumors approaching last year’s trade deadline and this offseason. Gallen and Leake were both trade deadline additions last year.
