Less than 24 hours after being introduced as ASU head football coach, Kenny Dillingham has started piecing together his staff.
His high school head coach, Charlie Ragle, is set to join Dillingham’s staff.
“It’s come full circle,” Ragle told Brad Cesmat by phone Monday morning. “A big part of this is my mom is 74 and my mother-in-law is 81. They both live in Mesa. I want their grandchildren to see them.”
Ragle just completed his first season as head coach at Idaho State.
“It was tough (to leave Idaho State) but ultimately, it became the No. 1 thing is my family and we don’t need to go anywhere. This is home.”
Before Idaho State, Ragle was an assistant coach on Justin Wilcox’s staff at Cal. To say he recruited Arizona effectively would be a vast, vast understatement.
Cal has multiple Arizona players on the roster, and Ragle was responsible for getting them to Berkeley, including Brayden Rohme, Brett Johnson and Tommy Christakos.
Prior to his time with the Bears, he was on the Arizona coaching staff with Rich Rodriguez, where he helped add the likes of Jalen Harris, Cam Denson and Keenan Walker to the Wildcat roster.
Ragle helped create a dynasty at Chaparral High School, where he coached Dillingham. He coached the likes of Craig Roh and Taylor Lewan in his time with the Firebirds before heading to the college ranks.
Another member of that Chaparral staff was Vince Amey. Pete Thamel reported the former Sun Devil will join the defensive staff.

Amey played on the 1996 Rose Bowl team. He also spent five years at the University of Arizona. Most recently, he was on the Idaho State staff as defensive end coach under Ragle.
