Just over 24 hours after Jedd Fisch officially left the University of Arizona for Washington, the Wildcats have reportedly offered the head coach position to a familiar face.
According to 247Sports’ Jason Scheer, San Jose State head coach Brent Brennan has been offered the Arizona head coaching position.
Brennan was a finalist for the Arizona job when the Wildcats opted for Fisch. Brennan was also a graduate assistant under Arizona legend Dick Tomey in 2000.
Brennan has been the head coach of the Spartans since 2017, posting a 34-48 record. San Jose State’s crown jewel under Brennan was the COVID-shortened 2020 season where the Spartans went 7-1. From 2020-2023, San Jose State went 26-19 and hit the seven-win mark three times, a feat that had only happened three times in the 20 years prior to that span.
Prior to San Jose State, Brennan was the wide receivers coach at Oregon State from 2011-2016. He coached wide receeiver standouts Brandin Cooks, who just wrapped up his 10th year in the NFL, Phoenix native Markus Wheaton, who played for the Steelers and Bears and the Beavers’ all-time leading receiver James Rodgers.
Brennan will need to rebuild the bulk of Arizona’s coaching staff as the majority of the group has reportedly followed Fisch to Washington.
Johnny Nansen, who served as Arizona’s defensive coordinator the last two seasons and joined Texas’ staff this offseason, was also a major contender for the job and received strong public support from Wildcat players.
Scheer did allude that Nansen could return as the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator and work with Brennan.
