Report: Bettcher To Interview For Cards HC Vacancy

Just two days after the mentor stepped down, the apprentice may have an opportunity to become his replacement. Monday Bruce Arians officially announced his retirement as the Arizona Cardinals head coach. Tuesday news broke his defensive coordinator James Bettcher will have be interviewing for the vacancy.

One NFL insider believes Bettcher would be a nice fit for the position.

“I think James Bettcher would be a good candidate,” SI.com Senior NFL Writer Peter King said to Brad Cesmat Tuesday morning.

He also drew praise from Arians during his retirement press conference.

The 39 year-old Bettcher, know for his aggressive style and unique schemes, first served as the Cards Outside Linebackers Coach from 2013-2014 before taking over as Defensive Coordinator the following season. He replaced Todd Bowles who left to become the head coach of the New York Jets.

It’s been a busy week as Carson Palmer also announced his retirement, ending his 15-year career.
