Rain Rain Go Away: Golfers React To Tough Weather Conditions

Arizona Sports News online

Mother Nature was not a golfer’s friend Friday at the Waste Management Open. The heavy ran led to softer and slower greens, which affected the field as a whole. Here is what some players had to say about the weather conditions:

Jon Rahm- T-13th with four under par and native of Spain:

“It was pretty much the best round in the rain I have ever dad. Where I live, our climate is kind of like this. It gets cold and rainy, so I’m used to this weather.”

Daniel Berger, currently 2nd with eight under par:

“You know, the greens were pretty fast all day. You know, the superintendent has done a great job. I’m expecting them to be just as fast the next couple of days.”

Ryan Palmer T-4th with six under par:

“Greens were a lot slower with the water on the greens, and when I had chances I struggled making putts. Overall it was tough, because it yould come and go. You’d take the umbrella out, put it up. This kind of rain, it’s one of those rainst it just sticks on you. You can’t keep your grip dry. ..everybody played tough. Scores showed it. Weren’t very many scores at all this morning. “

Bubba Watson currently T-4 with six under par:

“The rain really affects my golf game, andso for me this is a great round. I’m excited about it, happy with it, ended with a birdie.”

Justin Thomas, currently 3rd with seven under par:

“Besides hitting about four more clubs than I would have liked on the greens, it was not too much (of a change). I mean, there really isn’t too much you can do. It was really hard because it would rain and the greens would get kind of skippy and they’d skid, and they would stop a little bit and you’d play for the skid and it would land soft. It was hard to judge that…It would go about 75% of the distance you wanted.”
