PV senior QB Ryan Finley looks the part

It’s easy to see why Boise State offered Paradise Valley senior quarterback Ryan Finley a scholarship earlier this year.

It’s even easier to see why Finley committed to the Broncos before his senior season.

Standing on the sidelines for last Friday’s Saguaro-PV game, it became apparent to me Finley and BSU are a perfect match.

The 6’4, 180-pounder shredded the SaberCats defense completing 23-41 for 346 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winner to junior Trent Gavalek with one second remaining in the 32-29 upset of the defending Division III champs.

Finley looks the part of a Boise State quarterback.

Smarts? Check.

Pocket presence? Check.

Touch? Check.

In total control? Absolutely.

Everyone points to the recent success of Kellen Moore, but many forget the QB’s who came before him like Jared Zabransky and Ryan Dinwiddie. Finley fits the mold.

Earlier this summer, Finley told Pros2Preps.com his main focus this past off-season was stepping into his throws and perfecting his mechanics. Both were on display against one of the top defenses in the state.

His numbers would have been even better had his receivers reeled in two perfect deep balls down the sideline in the first half.

PV head coach Donnie Yandis called it one of the biggest wins in school history. If Finley continues to play like he did against Saguaro, it will be a season filled with many memorable moments like I saw Friday at Trojan Field.
